他凭借他那翘起的嘴唇，含混的呻吟，摆动的臀部以及狂野的音乐席卷着一阵推翻一切正统规范的飓风，成为了50年代青年人膜拜的偶像、核心。他把乡村音乐和R&B音乐内在融合得洽到好处，带来了世界上最疯狂的音乐。就是他，Elvis Presley——猫王。
为什么叫“猫王”，我一直弄不明白，问外国人，他们甚至不知道“Cat King”或者“King of Cats”。看来“猫王”只不过是国人为了方便记忆而杜撰出来的一个流传甚广的名字罢了。这个巨星的成功完全处于一次心血来潮。Elvis Presley因想为母亲的生日录一首歌，所以在太阳唱片公司的录时棚随意唱了一首《That’s all right Mama》立刻得到了Sam Phillips的赞赏：他终于发现了一位白人可以演唱得像黑人一样出色了。于是这个小伙子开始了自己的坦荡星途，似乎没有人能够比他更受上帝青睐，一切的一切都是那么不可思议而又顺理成章。服兵役是他事业生涯的一次转折，18个月结束以后，他的歌一样受欢迎，专辑一样热销，但是他已经开始淡出摇滚了，他的歌曲更趋近于乡村民谣。这时，Rollin’ Stone和Beatles的异军突起也从他的手中接过了摇滚的旗帜。
无论如何，猫王绝对是我们任何一个摇滚发烧友的上帝，他是摇滚的鼻祖，他的音乐财富也影响了一代又一代的摇滚音乐人。
《Jailhouse Rock》这首歌是他主演的同名热卖电影的主题曲。虽然国内的歌迷听的最多的还是那首《Love me tender》，但是作为他音乐生涯前期的一首优秀歌曲，我还是非常推崇的。似乎也只有这首歌能够让我看到那个放荡不羁的摇滚青年，也让我们在黑白片中找到了美国50年代的摇滚浪潮的痕迹。
